Having bought and tested the fly 6, I'm really impressed with it's camera/light function. So then it got me thinking about letting those crappy drivers know i'm filming them (in the hope they will notice and wide pass me).
It appears to work "most" of the time, but some drivers can't see anything that isn't directly in front of them, and I'm 50-50 on keeping or ditching the sign .... can you help me decide .....

If they can't see you (as most seem not to) then they sure ain't going to see a small bit of hi-viz.
But if it gives you a bit more piece of mind when you are cycling then keep it.

"But if it gives you a bit more piece of mind when you are cycling then keep it."

that's the bit i'm having trouble with , especially how it's perceived by other cyclists

I'd not use the sign.

There's a couple of reasons:

I prefer to let an errant driver give his or her version of events to police without the knowledge I have evidence of precisely what happened. Their version will never agree with mine and, human nature being as it is, they will either exaggerate or lie. It's better, in my view, to let them do that in their police or insurance statement before I reveal the video evidence I have.

I don't want to draw attention to perhaps the only thing that's going to support me in any criminal or civil case against a third party. The camera and its card are easily removed and, however remote the likelihood, I'm not prepared to risk losing that evidence.

That is a great reason for not keeping the sign, and something I had not considered, i.e what the camera is there for should the worst happen and I am hit or knocked off my steed. My initial thinking was to prevent the close passes.

I run a Fly 12 and a Fly6, with the 12 mounted beneath the bars to make it less noticeable.

The cameras themselves are unlikely to prevent close passes (probably only another cyclist would recognise them) - I use strong road positioning, with frequent shoulder checks, to deter that sort of thing
.
They still happen but with much less frequency.

How would the sign on the back change the behavior of a car behind ? The cynic in me says it's like waving a red flag to a bull and might antagonize drivers.
I prefer to be incognito.

"How would the sign on the back change the behavior of a car behind" in much the same way , we become a little cautious on roads with a camera sign?
I did consider that before attaching to the saddle bag, but had no punishment passes as yet

Not sure that a wee sign is going to help with driver behaviour, maybe antagonise the sort of eejits you're using the camera as evidence of?

My order hasn't arrived yet, but will be running incognito.

Actually, that's the one feature of the fly6 that bugs me... There is no incognito.

Every mode has a spinning circle of LEDs around the camera. There is no mode for camera and no light.

You can either have it flashing with all lights to hide the others, or have it on permanent light, bright to try and distract from the circle of LEDs... Which is what I do. I have a flashing led on my pannier too, so one flash, one constant.

I'll be running it in flashing mode I think. I generally run a flashing rear light on all rides, just vary the brightness depending on conditions.
This will be a direct replacement on my seatpost, although I'm considering moving my cat eye to the seatstay as a backup.
