At the end of the day the bin men just hook the bin onto the thingy at the back of the wagon and press a button

They might notice something obvious at the top

but if there is a mucky food carton (which we are allowed) half way down then there is no chance they will notice

they are also mostly unlikely to actually bother - they have enough work to get done without pratting about with notices and warnings

unless there is a big central problem when a "checker" might come round and do some checks as they go round

but even then - are they really going to empty a whole bin out to check if there are a few dodgy items at the bottom???

so in my mind it is mostly a moral issue - you know what you are supposed to do and why - so you should do it

I had this, had a load of cardboard to go, but no room in the recycling bin, so I asked the bin staff if they would throw the cardboard in the back of the truck, they said they weren't allowed as the new bin trucks are a different design, that means the hooks for the bin are in the way, with a large rubber curtain over the opening, and ,someone had sneaked up to throw some cardboard in, got caught on the hooks and lifted of the floor, so the council issued instructions that if it's not in the bin. it doesn't get taken

I suppose it is a good reason

but they could empty the bin and mention that if it ends up full in 2 minutes time they might get confused about which they have emptied and do it again

But then there are people around that are "different" and such things can get out of hand easily

and why should they risk their job?

It was large boxes from flatpack furniture, so a bit big to get in the bin, unless it was torn up, all was not lost, it went in the cardboard skip at work!
