Get well soon Tim - need to see that pump in operation!

Luckily it's just a generic grotty lurgy. I'm not far off being able to cycle, and in fact reckon I'll be back on my commute come Monday.

If you'd been on the WARTY on Saturday, you would have seen my shiny pump in action, getting Auntie Helen's & Uncle James wheels back up to pressure.

Go for it.

If it was a couple of days later, I'd do the FNRttC. On reflection I was starting to come down with this lurgy on Saturday when I did 70 miles with no great problems.

A FNRttC comes under the heading of a fairly easy ride, so long as you aren't TECing or being a signpost, you can bimble along at a moderate rate and put no great strain or demands on your body.

(Which is not saying that being a TEC or signpost is necessarily a great effort, but occasionally it's useful if the TECs can can floor it a bit to catch up with the peloton when there's been a long fairy visitation inspired delay, and the signposts can spend the entire ride sprinting back to the head of the ride, should they be so inclined!)

MWahahahahahahahahahahahah (wipes the tears away)....

Sorry it was the idea of me attempting to TEC or signpost... snarf.

I might do an alternative solo-NtFNRttC sometime next week. Does anyone know what time the Madeira Cafe in Brighton opens up?

i suspect that I'll have to carry a Thermos for my mid-way stop, since someone said that Gatwick had become a bit sensitive to cyclists entering their concourse (although admittedly I won't be quite on the scale of a FNRttC!)

Susie and I are still having mid morning coffee at Gatwick at the weekend. Which reminds me - I must write to Amanda Vango.......

I dread to think the restrained polite vitriol that the letter will contain...thankfully I am not Ms Vango! Hope you are feeling better btw Simon- sounds very traumaticxx(

Sig - more cake? Can I have some?

WW - I bet you'd make a fine signposter- the sprinting's the fun bit - lets you stretch the legs out!

Very sad to miss this ride... I can live vicariously through the ride reports

you have me wrong! I shall be the very model of solicitousness. After all, her airport has just been sold to an outfit that is going to take it downmarket, and the Gatwick 'Customer Service' department may go to the great runway in the sky....

 Now I definitely want to see it.

Thanks for the information Simon. If the Madeira Cafe opens at 8, and I'm already leaving from Croydon, which is probably already an hour or so into the ride, I think I had better leave later than midnight!

I could probably get away with stopping in the airport, but I'm tempted to just circumvent it entirely and avoid any possibility of agro. If I can find somewhere to sit on a wall and drink some luke warm coffee from a Thermos, I'll be happy enough.
