You'd be surprised. You've done the ride several times, so are probably more capable than you think, and know how things work, which is more than many new riders.

As regards signposting, at the start of the ride, before we've spread out too much, it's not much effort to get back to the start, and you don't have to sprint back to be ready with a few minutes, you can just gradually work you're way back chatting to people and enjoying yourself as you do.

I've only occasionally done any signposting, these days there are normally far more volunteers than Simon needs, and it doesn't have to be a series of short sprints, unless you want it to be.

I'd recommend it less at the end of the ride, since you can sometimes find yourself with a 20 minute wait as the ride trickles past, and consequently stuck at the end of the queue for breakfast.

I'll be up for some more waymarking tomorrow, it was fun last month..
Hope you make a quick recovery from the lurgy, Tim.

Ahh, it's annoying. Unfortunately I've been a bit ill this week and although I'd love to be riding tonight, I'm not going to cope over the next few days unless I have to opt for an early night and long solid sleep.

So that's a reluctant withdrawl for me, but I'll be back for Brighton in November.

Have a great ride everyone!

there's one on bikely - look for FNRttC Whitstable September 2009 (whoops - sorry Tim)

But bear in mind that the route is subject to amendment by whimsy...

Trains - I have been assured by the counter clerk at Whitstable that the trains will run to time - and, as some of you will know, this man does not do cheerful!

and those of you who haven't purchased tickets from Whitstable back to London should aim to get a 'groupsave' or travel with network card holders.

Weather forecast not too bad, precipitation likely though....

The latest Met Office forecast has the rain to the north and west of us for the duration of the ride, which would be good because:

a) wet digital cameras tend not to work, and
 I'm not sure I'll be able to get my waterproof jacket zipped up any more. It must have shrunk since I last used it.

OK - we've all had our fun. The silly jokes about "rain" can stop now. Rain on the FNRttC? As if. We need someone to announce the certainty of clear skies, in an authoritative voice.

Sorry, no can do, it's been a squeeze, but I've managed to get an inflatable 'ark' in my saddlepack
