Mind you, my little Colnago has Record hubs and when I ambled down the street on it the other day it was whooshy not clicky - nice!


Edit: that second to last tikka is not the right noise - it's not a 3K bike after all...

Davy, I have a Mavic Aksium in Shimano sitting around doing nothing.

It's not perfect though. One of the spoke nipples has seized to the spoke and is a little loose, but It's been like it for a while now.

There's very little wobble and would do a genteel ride no problems. I've got some spare spokes as well, but no nipples, so you could probably get it fixed easily if a shop can cut out the old one and has a nipple to hand.

So if you've got nipples and can get to a friendly LBS, perhaps they could give them a little tweak for you

I have been meaning to get it fixed, but if your able to do that I'll pay for the repair, I just haven't had a chance to get to shop yet.

no bloody way, not another of those noisy bloody freewheels, only a real twonk would mess up a peaceful nightride by tooling along with one of those. It's only one step removed from a kid putting cards in the spokes

Am inclined to agree. Can't hear myself think when I'm behind dellzeqq (trying to keep up). My components may be cheap but they're noise free.

Except for my badly installed computer magnet which I just cannot get to run silently without losing a kilo or three in weight. Which is just uncalled for and unnecessary.

Well, there is a tasty female in the Kingston Evans branch Redjedi... but I dont think she's a mechanic...

I've just heard from St'Johns about the spoke. Seems unobtainable, so got Shimano's helpdesk number...

Think I will order through the stuff I need to get to R500 going properly.. My LBS has their mechanic next in wednesday but I know they wont be able to do it in time... shame.. but thanks. I dont really want to risk damaging your wheel, I know am quite hard going on a bike...

Thank you, was so regretting putting a SORN on the car for the summer this morning when my legs were going "you what?" after 500m.

The 'puter as well as saying 'no' also says I was only a couple of minutes slower over the 13 miles despite feeling otherwise. Odd. Will see how I get on tonight.

Probably should have taken to my bed sooner last week but it was the annual conference at work and one needs to be seen etc., etc., in these troubled times.

It's only going to be a back-up. I'll have Campags on the new bike, and I've got a new pair of Mavics coming for the commuter, so I won't miss it if it gets buggered. Although it might be a long walk back for you
