I've been in contact with both mike_e and Sig. Rendezvous have been arranged. We shall gently progress toward HPC, with a short respite at chez moi.

See you tonight!

I could have done with a half day today myself.

Hopefully it won't rain, as the mudgaurds that were delivered this morning arrived bent, so have to go back.

They are supposed to be bent silly! ;)

Apparently there's an EU ruling that all mudguards have to be straight from 2010. They've appointed Bonj as the regulator. I know all this because Spire told me.

RJ - leave the mudguards at home. They're a curse. The CTC wants to make them illegal and, in any case, the way the forecast is you could do this ride without lights (and, no, don't leave them at home).

I am not sure if anyone else is planning to come down the west coast line this evening but it is disrupted at the moment - signalling failure around Rugby or some such. I suggest you have a look at live train departures on National Rail enquiries - there are cancellations appearing.

I've gone one better, and left them in the UPS depot, on the way back to Chain Reactions.

Looks like it will be a nice warm night as well

CTC official policy is to ban mudguards? I agree improperly fitted ones are a real problem. Mine are not, on either bike (permanent SKS fixing on the Jetstream, Raceblades securely cable-tied on tonight's vehicle, the Cadenza- it got a full service Monday).
My n+1 (to be collected Saturday) won't be having any permanent guards, but I'm not planning to ride that in the rain....

Good luck everyone with this ride later! Am sure it will be much fun, so enjoy!

As Aperitif knows, I may join up with him (whoever else) and Mike E on the return leg to Londinium somewhere along the M25, so if you need anything, let me know!

Rolls on the sunshine!

If you've not left - good luck

I was planning to cycle the enormous 8 or 9 miles from my house to Felpham and surprise you all with my wit and repartie (and lots of food)

Unfortunately I've got confirmed swine flu and although I feel OKish now I'm under quarantine.

Next time you're in the area though...

Lovely weather here right now by the way

Good luck

That was a quite excellent ride. Immaculate weather arranged by the cat, and a very fine route organised by Mr Legg and his recce team.

The midway stop seemed very friendly, even if those of us coming in later had to queue a bit, and then find someone we could turf out of a seat so we could eat our bacon butties (thanks to those who finished and vacated their seats).

The breakfast was good, and very efficient. The sea was there and looked wet, and a few mad souls ventured into it.

The ride seemed to suffer from rather a lot of fairy visitations, not all attributable to the flint path, out of the eight punctures I'm aware of, five were before that path. Just an unfortunate coincidence I guess, but that was a lot more than any previous FNRttC I've been on.

The train back was also a bit packed with bikes, although this was really only a problem because I got off before Victoria, and my bike wasn't on top. This was then exacerbated by the train not stopping with the opening doors on the expected side, but this only caused minimal hassle, thanks to those who helped there as well.

On arriving home, given the relative lateness, my mog was somewhat displeased that his breakfast was substantially later than usual, and even more so when he realised that he was also still getting his first-thing-in-the-morning pill.

Anyway, as ever, well done Mr Legg, I believe a fine time was had by all, and certainly by me, the route to Bognor (or even Felpham) is definitely worthy of adding to the list to be repeated.

GPX track to follow later, but no photos by me, I never got around to getting my camera out!
