Bollo, I'll be getting into Waterloo at 2319, hopefully. Have to say though, if Metcheck's right I can't see the ride going ahead...very windy indeed, they think..:becool:

the only thing that will stop it is ice. The rest - ha!. We spit in the face of the wind....

do bear in mind, though, that the route I have in mind, which is pretty much the route that Davy and I took last week, is tough. If it's so windy that people are exhausted we'll cut and run for the east side of the motorway, but if we can stick to the west side there are one in seven climbs, twists and turns, and Devil's Dyke Road, which is no pushover.

Metcheck reckons northerly winds, gusts up to 42 mph.....though some other weather sites disagree (so I hope they're right!).

Not any more it doesn't. For London and Brighton at the moment it's something like 10-15 mph Westerly, temperatures around 4 to 5°C and no rain.

I could happily live with that, but a lot can happen in five days, so we'll just have to wait and see what happens later in the week.

Yup, that's more like it....

Where's the one in seven? Just north of Lower Beeding?
that's the one - and the downhill is worse than the uphill - we'll be sending people down there one at a time in their lowest gear.

From there we go southeast to Warninglid

edit Monday morning - Metcheck now showing a dry ride, westerly wind (tough work on the A264) and 5 degrees.

After the Preston Park Ride earlier this year, I returned via Devils Dyke, Saddlescombe Road etc and it was ugly. The water running off the fields into the road, low visibility, cars bow-waving the water up the jacket just in case I wasn't wet enough with the downfalling stuff, up and down, up and down, my usual cocktail of unwanted detours and the miserable woman who wanted to put me off buying a lottery ticket. "I was only stalling in the shop to escape 50 seconds rain missus - honest!"
Then I encountered Chapel Road - a real pox-doctor's antidote to easy riding!

But it was all good fun.
Be careful everyone!

But there is quite a lot of rain forecast for Saturday afternoon, so those of us riding back via Box Hill better not hang about at the seaside for too long!

Anyone coming up from Waterloo? MacB, I'm looking at you, although these days you probably ride it from home for sh1ts and giggles, so hardcore are you.

No chance of me riding up, I'm just trying to get fit enough to go, have been off bike a lot as my cyclogs lack of miles testifies. I'll make it but probably going to find it tougher than usual. I was just about fit but my pothole incident on the last one really left its mark. Put my back out and my left elbow came up like a balloon again. I may even bring the commuting tank for the extra comfort of 35mm tyres:biggrin:

I'll plan to get train and change at Clapham Junction for Victoria then cycle to HPC from there. The 2216, or 2158, from Farnborough Main work for me, if you happen to me leaning out of the train window, calling to me as it arrives, all the better:biggrin: Just let me know what train suits you better....Al

Stu - I'm a fickle bugger I'm afraid, and Bludge's silky keyboard wooing will have me going by Victoria it seems. Also, I'd like to get there a little earlier that 2320, to soak up the atmosphere and all.

Al - the 2158 at F'boro comes through Winchester and it's around the time I was planning to get there anyway. I'll be on that unless you hear different. Look for a fat man dressed as a cyclist and covered in cake crumbs. I've still got your number unless its changed recently.
