Got a dilemna, I've just been offered a new role in London (currently work in southampton) & live in basingstoke. I have to sort my new train ticket - it's £3900 without tube, £4,600 with tube & decathlon do some folding bikes for £120-£150 so do I get the tube etc. all rolled in, or do I get the foldy and find out what london traffic is like in winter?

My commute from Waterloo would be to Canary Wharf.

Cheers

Have you thought about Boris bikes - might be a way to find out without the financial outlay.

(And an Oyster card for the days when the weather is just too vile....)

Four thousand pounds just to pay to get to work... I begrudge the two quid fuel it would cost me every time I drive in...

I'd brave the traffic and save as much as possible! Can you cycle the whole route?

£4,000 does take the biscuit IMO especially as I won't get a seat in the AM. Driving into London is definitely not an option, cycling to London is also definitely out.

Thought about that but assuming weather is poor 40% (factoring in my laziness) then that's 100 days on a Boris/foldy so it might be more financially viable to get a foldy on cycle2work with accessories for £13.60 pcm

I commute into London everyday with bike (full size) on the train. SWT in my neck of the woods allow bikes on trains in the peak, then I cycle wherever I have to go in London that day. I get free travel on the Underground but then the opportunities to cycle would be a lot less if I took advantage of it all the time.

Yeah, sadly the line I'm on, SWT ban non folding bikes at peak times.
