What about Clannad? Yes, I know some of their work doesn't really qualify as "folk", but it's nice listening anyway, especially the Gaelic tracks.

It's a bit more complicated than that...
The Benjamin Britten arrangements, either in the classic recording with the composer and Peter Pears or in the complete Hyperion edition. They take folk song straight into the realm of art song without losing their essential folkness.
