Thanks but no thanks. I think I'll pass.
You've never worked on a ship have you? You tend to get a bit less picky and avoid looking at veggies that haven't been...'prepared'....by the cook. after a couple of weeks. I have no idea how he gets lettuce and tomatoes to last that long.

I just wish the ships vacuum toilets coped as well with pips...xx(

You can all stick your vegetables where the sun don't shine. I still fancy egg and chips.

not sure if its a myth but if you do stick all the veg where the sun don't shine it will give the doctors and nurses a jolly good laugh when they try and remove it

I spent 3 years as a Deck Cadet in my youth. One trip was on a reefer (refrigerated cargo ship to you land-lubbers), first stop South Africa for oranges and grapefruit to Europe. No shortage of fresh fruit on that trip. Then to New Zealand for frozen lamb to Avonmouth. A month of lamb on the menu; breakfast lunch and dinner. Roast, stewed, curried, stovies, chops, leg, shoulder...... Every possible combination. No idea where it might have come from .

It's not very urban but a lot of people think that berries from a yew tree are deadly poisonous. We all used to eat them when I was at school. They taste very sweet and pleasant but we were advised by those in the know that the pip was best not chewed or swallowed.

You need to make sure you have an excuse ready though.

I find that, "I was hanging out the washing in the garden, and I slipped as I was crossing the veg patch wearing just my dressing gown and nothing else. No I don't know how it came to be peeled and washed either," always seems to work.

The seeds are poisonous, but the flesh is fine.

Often wear a dressing gown whilst hanging out the washing then?

I too enjoyed the flesh but not the seeds from yew trees. Ripe fuschia berries are tasty too.
