I disagree. Toe clips are a nuisance; the straps hang out and scrape on the ground if you're not in the clip, they don't hold your foot as well as clip-ins do and if you do tighten the straps you risk not getting out in a hurry and cutting off the circulation to your toes. On mountain bikes they used to catch vegetation and the buckles went rusty after a winter. There's a reason why they have almost completely disappeared from the scene.

Theres nothing wrong with toeclips, they will hold your foot as well as clipless, theres no need to tighten them down that tight that you can't get your foot out, there's a sweet spot where they will hold your foot well enough to pull up or pedal circles and still be able to slip your foot out, they also have the advantage of not being restricted to cycle shoes, on my fixed I cycle in steel toe capped boots when commuting, trainers when running errands and when out on a Sunday ride cycle shoes, I can't do that on the other bike with its clipless.
