It would take me 300 years to earn what Wayne Rooney earns in one. So much for any thoughts of an early retirement !

In that case you still earn twice as much as the 'average' person and a lot more than most.

Customer last week was a coach for Yaxley utd..this is a pay to watch local side where some players earn 200 a week touch..he got sacked on weds along with all the other coaching and managment..

The salaries of the top players are eye-wateringly high. I don't see how it can be changed given as others have said how massive the EPL is now globally. What I would like to see, though which could be done more easily is greater sharing of all this wealth from the top down. It's a massive shame to see teams like Hereford Utd for example go under (the club was wound up in the High Court in December) when there's all that cash further up the hierachy. It sometimes feels like the Premier League is sucking the life out of our more grassroots football.

I'm sure if 70,000 people paid £50+ a time to watch me do my days work and Sky paid hundreds of millions to televise it I may be a bit closer to their wages than I am. It is obscene what they earn but its also market forces.
