I remember reading something about Specialized recalling one of their bikes because of a fork failure. I don't remember if it was the SL7 though...

You are right and thanks T4tomo for explaining. I have already had this profressionally resolved by Mike Vaughan Cycles in Kenilworth.

In the interest of transparency the recall covers all Tarmac SL7s sold from July 2020 to August 2021 with hidden cables. Months before the recall was issued the steerer tube became an active discussion topic in the internet. Life time warranty for the frame which is the single biggest component in warranty is only issued to the first owner. No manufacturer has ever issued one to second or subsequent owners. The reasons should be obvious to any serious bike owner.

The fix is now a separate safety issue discussion and still an active discussion topic in cycling forums.

OP should have made this clear from the onset. The Mike Vaughn Cycle fix is belatedly stated.
