Re; the electric cars in fords

I’ve seen photographs of a Series 3, that was converted to electric , in the States (late 90s), with water over the bonnet
Apparently, it drove out

From my files, & previously featured within my 'New Car Day' & also, 'The Skoda Thread'

Taken; Monday 5th July 2021

This was taken at the ford known as The Lee, on a minor road, about 4 miles west of the A167 Morpeth - Wooller road
(Northumberland)

Taken; December 2004

During a recent Out & About/Dad & Daughter' day (back in August), I looked at the ford on Leapings Lane, Millhouse Green (Penistone)
I've driven through it before, in my Discovery Tdi & a couple of the Defenders

Sadly, it was more of an awkward arrival/departure, than I fancied risking:sad:

There's a lot more large stones in the 'bed' & on the 'southern shore' now

This is one of my favourite places

Dob Park Packhorse Bridge
Washburn Valley
(between Swinsty & Lindley Wood reservoirs)
North of Otley, near the bottom of 'Norwood Edge

Sometimes, if I knew I was going to be in the area, I'd take a flask, buy a sandwich & 'Yorkshire Post' in Otley, & park up by the bridge for a while
It's very, very unlikely that I'll even have the money (& even if I did!) get planning permission to build a house there

I doubt I'd take the Kodiaq down there, as the climb out to the north, is quite rocky, & steep (too much clutch-slip, when manoeuvring?)

Date not known. but I owned that 110Tdi, 1997 - 2001

Rufford ford has just been on Jeremy Vine, with locals arguing about whether the closure should remain, and whether the problem's caused by lack of dredging or climate change. It amuses me that people have money to waste writing off a car just to make a You Tube video, probably the same sort who'll bust a blood vessel if a cyclist knocks on their window for passing too close.

It's not just the idiots driving through, but also a crowd safety issue. The barriers were recently 'dislodged' by a grumpy farmer and his massive tractor - there is a video of it. Must be an absolute nightmare living near that ford with the traffic and crowds. I'd love to see the insurance claims - I'd be 'no, not paying for stupidity' !

As far as I can see it is only a problem because of the YT stuff

If people stopped posting things about it people would stop taking stupid risks

There are loads of fords around the country and only this one causes problems

I suppose idiots will idiot

A couple of signs saying that it is dangerous and your insurance will not pay out for any damage
and erect them in a position to spoil any views from onlookers

but I bet idiots will find a way to exercise their right to make their dumb video for views

Some of the YTers were travelling 100-200 mile round trip just for the content. Rufford was getting beyond dangerous so it's right to have a temporary closure.

A lot of local YTers now travel to other areas where they have similar fords/thick drivers. I believe Lincolnshire/Nottinghamshire direction.

There is one near where I used to live in Bangor

it was a great way of avoiding the chaos in the town centre in summer and lots of local used it with no problem

in winter usage dropped off completely - I met someone who lived in a farmhouse just by it and they said the cars passed it quite often in summer - in winter it was nearly all farm traffic

funnily enough there were never any spectators

I used it as part of a bike ride with my daughter - there was quite a steep hill leading to it so it was great fun going through it in the middle of summer when it was about 2 inches deep

In winter it could be impassable - there was a depth gauge but it was often invisible due to the standing waves caused by the footbridge

local turned round and went the long way if they got there and it was deep!

I never go through fords by car or bike, depth is a problem by car, but on the bike the bottom is also a risk. I know from fording streams on foot that stones that are continuously wet can get as slippery as ice.

The small one, off ‘ Beamsley Bank’ (A59) always caught a lot of riders out, as it’s stone setts!
It’s the opposite side of the River Wharfe from Bolton Abbey (below the sadly missed ‘Buffers’ cafe)
