Well there i was minding my own bee's wax, hitting 25 mph(slight downhill), on an empty duel carridgeway A78 . When bang i'm hit and off i come, thankfully no other cars behind and i scramble for the kerb.
Then the pain kicks in knees ,elbow, and right hand are on fire, then a bit of shock i'm lying there in the mud groaning, and to be honest i thought my leg was broke.
Within what must have been seconds, at least three cars pulled over and dashed to my aid, one being a nurse from the local hospital. They all kicked into action checking me over , phoning for an ambulance, keeping me talking and basically just being brilliant.
Then a couple of cyclists came by pulled over, once again making sure i was ok, i may be wrong but they then done what i think only a cyclist would do. Started to get all the bits and bobs , that fell off, or broke off the bike and stashed it in my pannier.
Then the culprit arrives and in a thick as peat Irish accent" I think i may have just hit you"............stunned silence all around. Turns out he is a priest from the local town , and by the looks of him i think he was around when jesus was a nipper.
He left his details and despite advice from all and sundry he left before the ambulance or police arrived. On arrival at the hospital thankfully just soft tissue damage and a sprained wrist,no further police action to be taken as there were no witnesses. Though he has agreed to pay for the damage to my bike,no sign of an apology mind.
Moral of this wee tale? well if like myself you are a lapsed catholic, beware there going to get us back to church one way another:smile:

Could be considered lazy policing. Yes, there are no witness, but he's admitted it to you and in front of witnesses. I'd be requesting they interview him at least. If he admits it during interview then you don't NEED witnesses. If he denies it, then yeah, I can see CPS not running with it... but a bit lazy to skip the 'talking to him' stage IMO, and if I were you I'd get the police to do this. Make sure you stress this is an INJURY RTC when you ring up, and ask to check that the log reflects this in case it's been written off as non-injury which is where we then generally take no action after checking all relevant parties are insured.

Whether you want him prosecuted ofc is up to you, but if it was me I'd be recommending a driver improvement course.

Hope you heal quickly, and get back on the (maybe new?) bike soon!

Glad you're not to seriously injured.

I'm intrigued to know how the priest hit you...was it an overtake, a side swipe or what?

Sounds like a really lucky escape.

swift recovery

I don't understand, no witnesses and yet at least three cars pulled over within seconds...?

Glad you are ok, in the grand scheme of things anyway.

Well it seemed like seconds, and none of them saw the collision i did ask.
Coppercyclist thanks, the police were great to start with but lost intrest as soon as it was apparent there was no serious injury.

Christ

Father must have had a few tipples. To be frank, I think that's appaling behaviour from a priest. I think he'll be blaspheming the lord when he gets the repair bill !

Right - first off, credentials.
Brought up a catholic, Cathlic primary and secondary schools, with irish priests always around to some degree. Uncles a Priest. Scrap that - Uncles a priest who turned down being a monsignor and is now a canon. Aunts a nun.
OK.
Theres a VERY large part of Father Ted that is based on fact. I know my mother to have said to my aunt about a priests language. The reply "Oh, he'll be Irish"
I know of Irish Priests that have been poured out of their cars.
Of the Irish populace generally, I have no opinion. Priests however.....
I bet he shot off to calm his nerves, with a shot.

I think there's something in this - being an ex-catholic myself.

Not too long ago I pulled up at some lights behind a car, around 3-4 metres.
Suddenly, for no reason I could gather, the car began to reverse toward me, at speed. I got out of the way just in time, though my arm did clip the wing mirror.
The driver was a catholic nun/sister who'd just come out of church. Maybe too much communion wine!
