I've got OH's bike up on the stand for changing to winter tyres and a bit of cleaning and lubing while he's at work. I've taken the back wheel and the chain off.

I've forgotten how to put the chain back on. Oh dear!

Clockwise round top jockey and anti clock round bottom, if threadding from top.

You are a good lass, my wife never goes near my bikes (not allowed).

I am quite good! I've never had the wheel and the chain off at the same time before, somehow putting the chain back on is self explainatory when the wheel's on, but I've just looked blankly at it this morning.

Better news - I've been soaking the chain overnight in degreaser in a jar - It looks brand new!

Can you not put the wheel on first to help you remember about which way the chain goes?

If not have a look at your own bike for inspiration.

Not so useful in this case but when I take stuff off my bike I keep a freezer bag handy. This helps to facilitate the LBS conversation that begins "I'm not sure what I've done but it's all in here".......

and if you remove the forks, remember to out them back the right way up.

(back to front as featured in supermarket bikes is nothing compared to upside down.
