I haven't dared look out of the window yet! I'll have my porridge and then see how bad it is outside ...

Hope you all have a great ride, I've put waterproofs on for riding to work, not looking nice out at all :-(

I did get up and ready to cycle to HB but with it percipitating I really couldn't find the enthusiasm for what would be 80 miles +.

Just done a few hills on the TT and now the BB as come loose:sad:

I think it was CycleChatters 2 Northern Wintry Showers 3!

I met potsy and tubbycyclist in the car park in Hebden Bridge at 09:30 by which time tc had already done 2 hours! He told us that it had been pretty grim up at Blackstone Edge so our grimness defences were already on high alert when we set off up the (steep) Heptonstall Road, never my favourite thing to do at the start of a ride!

It wasn't long before the sleet started. I made a mental bet that tc would leave me and potsy at Blackshaw Head to return home via Mytholm Steeps, and that's exactly what he did!

Posty and I slogged on, but I realised that we were going to be late getting to Walk Mill to meet Pennine-Paul and bromptonfb. Also - my grimness-toleration circuitry was starting to freeze up so I exercised my ride-shortening prerogative and arranged to meet Paul and Shaun in Todmorden instead, rather than keeping them hanging about on the A646 in the cold.

The steep descent to Todmorden in the wet wore away a big chunk of my front brake blocks.

We met in Tod and decided to get into the warm at a cafe there, rather than waiting until Hebden Bridge. Paul was almost hypothermic. His eyes were bloodshot and he was shaking with cold. It was a wise move!

We discussed our options and decided that we didn't fancy our chances on the Cragg Vale climb so after the cafe stop we all rode to Littleborough. Paul and Shaun then headed for their respective homes while potsy and I turned and rode back to Walsden. We got on the original planned route through Lumbutts and Mankinholes and then rode to Hebden Bridge, and climbed to Pecket Well, and over to the Hare & Hounds for our pub lunch.

I thought it was a nice pub. We will probably go there on another forum ride, but preferably on a sunny day when we can sit outside and take in the views.

I showed potsy the steep descent back to town from the pub. You can pretty much do it without pedalling!

We discovered that we had done just shy of 30 miles so we rode round the block to round it up. So, not a huge day out but we made the effort on a grim day and that's what counts.

Today's photos were taken by potsy and will no doubt be posted soon!

Well done gents for some all weather riding. I looked out the window this morning, but went very promptly back to bed! Surprised you went up the hill to the pub after returning to Hebden Bridge rather than diving into one of Hebden's cafes or pubs! The extra miles will count in your legs when the sun comes back out for us all.

i did 35 miles! on fixed! 2 stone heavier than last year!...kudos to me....only joking. it was a really crappy day and paul probably did the most miles. well done paul for conquering the littlebrough to bacup rd on fixed 70" (?) inches, it really is impressive, no wonder you were cold, knackered and ready for home!

cheers gents and as usual only the brave (?stupid) turned up.....

I think 30 miles was enough in that weather, having a large mug of tea to warm up a bit.
Good to see Shaun again, ages since we last did a ride, albeit we only actually rode about 5 miles together today.
The curry and chips in the pub was most welcome :hungry:
