What event? Does the BBC mean 0225 and not 1425?

Anyway, the A15 is scary shoot to cycle on, as are many of Lincolnshire's major roads. Lincs Road Safety are stuck on failed "share the road" begging instead of rebuilding bad bits. If you meet a bad driver, there's often nowhere good to go, even if you get any warning.

It was the Flatlands audax and they were rerouted into the A15 due to a fatal accident on the original road.
Lincolnshire can be really dangerous.

For clarity the fatal collision that caused the riders to be diverted onto the A15 did not involve an audaxer.

I hope they all recover as soon as possible.

From the police link above. Hope they recover:

Update Monday 11th September:

The driver, who was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and failing to stop, has been released under investigation. Two of the cyclists remain in Queens Medical Centre, Nottingham, in a serious condition. They are both men in their 50s from Essex and Hertfordshire.

Yeah, best wishes to them and I hope if found guilty the driver gets the appropriate punishment. Living in Lincolnshire I can concur that many of the major roads are very dangerous. The A46 from Grimsby, through my home town of Market Rasen and onto Lincoln (my commute route, twisty and populated by near suicididal commuters who drive far too fast and perform crazy overtakes), the A15 from M180 to Lincoln (very dangerous due to the number of HGV's, narrow road, blind crests and drivers trying all sorts of risky overtakes to get past the HGV's), the A163 from Market Rasen to Louth (narrow, hilly and busy commuter route), the A157/8 from Lincoln to Louth (narrow, hilly and busy route for coast traffic) and the A17 from Lincoln to Sleaford (busy with HGV's, commuters and farm vehicles) are all red routes and see many fatalities year on year. They are not suitable for cycling and I would deter riders from doing so. Luckily there is an abundance of minor roads so keeping off the main roads is pretty easy). I don't think Lincolnshire drivers are deliberately vindictive to cyclists, rather just completely unaware of how they should be treated, and too lazy to pass correctly. One idiot came so close to me when passing me in the village of Middle Rasen that if I had my elbow any futher out he would have clipped it with his door mirror. He then left hooked me. I stopped to tell him that his driving was below the accepted minimum standard and told him why I thought this. However, he seemed confused as to my beef and just couldn't see what he did wrong.

... I don't think Lincolnshire drivers are deliberately vindictive to cyclists, rather just completely unaware of how they should be treated, and too lazy to pass correctly. ...

Problem is, when informed of how they should treat other road users, some drivers tend to divert away from the issues raised. In recent weeks, Lancashire Police have been posting information regarding minimum safe overtaking distances on the local facebook groups, and the general trend of responses are "what about cyclists jumping red lights?", "what about groups of cyclists taking up the whole lane?", "they need to be insured", "what about cyclists with no lights?" etc. Some drivers think it's their right to whizz past rather than wait a few seconds, even when the local plods try to tell them not to.
