Nice write up, it's always interesting reading other peoples impressions of places you've been.
yes, agreed. Got another trip now, doing a minimalist road bike trip to Cornwall via Exmoor. Had not realised quite how sodding hilly England is. Day 1 to Taunton 160km and 1150m ascent. Day 2 also same ascent of 1150m but in 70k!

Oh yeah. West Country is very hilly.

Sometimes I crave properly flat roads, but as soon as I spend more than an hour or two on them I remember that they are boring.
I like flat, I like mountainous, I like proper hills, in ranges, but undulations, river valley after river valley, are not my bag. That said there is some amazing cycling to be had in the West Country.

I bailed camping years ago on a wet day and stayed in a hotel in Combourg. Hotel du Lac, peut-etre. Excellent restaurant!
