been up in london for the weekend for my birthday. Happened to notice a copy of the times left by the pool with the evans cycles offer; £20 off if you spend a £100. Great; good excuse to take my birthday money to a nice big road bike shop and save a few quid at the same time.

I'd been looking to buy a new helmet and some good bib shorts a Specilaized Propero lid and some Endura FS260 bib shorts for £104 after discount; I'm happy.

The Evans road bike shop near Waterloo station was excellent, really helpful staff and loads of stock. A pleasant change from the 'We can order it in for you, should be here in 2 weeks' reply I'm used to.

What do paperboys get paid now, Joe?

I used to get 1p per paper per day so my morning round of (IIRC) about 32 papers got me the princely sum of £1.60 a week, which coupled with my Sunday round and the Freebie papers once a week got me pocket money of about £4 - 5 dependent on the number of leaflets in the freebies.... aaah, slave labour!!

They doubled the delivery cost to 2p per paper a few years later... I felt like I'd won the lottery (which didn't exist back then). :o)
