Does anyone (@Flying Dodo to the courtesy phone) have the participation stats for the ride ?
How many signed up ?
How many set off ?
How many arrived a velo?
Yes, @Flying Dodo has all the stats but has been off reccie'ing next month's Brighton route* and is currently out giving a young local lad a cycling lesson. I'm sure he'll be along later.

* You are in for several delightful, surprising, brand new treats!

Somebody called Angus failed to answer their name at HPC rollcall and had not communicated their non arrival to Flight Leader (incurring displeasure and mutterings), so I guess your answer is no.
The calls for absent people reminded me of November 2009, and Hummers adding to the list 'Mike Hunt'…

It's been a while since i've ridden up Portnalls rd didn't it used to be full of potholes?

The Trike with Di2 why didn't I think of that.

The ride there were just enough hills to keep me warm.

Adam broke the ride leaders curse ...............

Oh I got to see the glasses we picked for @Fab Foodie

It was very good to see Clive B and Mark been a while lads and very nlce to meet Julie

It's a bit more complicated than that...
TMN took me completely by surprise overtaking me down Reigate Hill, and I was not hanging about :-)
She's a complete farking nutter going down hill - no sense of self-preservation at all. Either that or her brakes don't work.

We had been up to 56 signed up, and then there were a few cancellations in the last couple of days with someone having an unfortunate mechanical riding to HPC, meaning I was expecting 52, but there were 3 no shows.

I was aware of 4 people abandoning by the time we left Faygate for a number of reasons, so there were 45 people arriving at Shoreham who'd done the ride in full plus one who had abandoned at Faygate but then got the train to Shoreham.

My moving average speed was 12.4 mph and a maximum speed of 32.7 mph, which was definitely slower than @User13710.

There was an Angus B and an Angus L booked, but it was Angus B who did the ride.

Thanks for that. I do hope the deal you struck with the caff allowed for some variability of numbers and that you're not out of pocket. If you are, do the decent thing and let us know.

More stats - there were 7 first timers on the ride.

Also, the route to Shoreham shares about 18 miles of the route to Brighton - although not continuously, as we weave sinuously around, joining and splitting off in various places.

I'm aware that there was some confusion amongst the peloton as we headed out of Reigate and passed Lonesome Lane as some thought we were turning down there, and were concerned by the lack of a waymarker.

So as a heads-up, the Brighton ride doesn't go along Lonesome Lane either, nor do we go up Portnalls Road, as there's a more picturesque alternative which isn't as steep, and only has 60% of the total climbing. We don't go down Reigate Hill either. There are some lovely fast downhills though.

A footnote on coincidences. Of the fifty-odd people on the ride, of whom perhaps six caught the same train as me, I ended up sharing a door lobby on the train with @jiberjaber (whom I had never met before). He was heading for his girlfriend's parents' house in Carshalton. But not just any old house in Carshalton: said house turns out to be on the same road and just twenty yards along from the house where I was born and lived till I was 14.

As someone part of whose day job involves debunking coincidences, I know that's not actually as remote a probability as it sounds, but I still thought it was pretty damn impressive.
