Hijack!
In tandem with myself, I would like to wish Timothy Hall, photographer, teepee aspirant, tandemista, another one of the good looking repair peloton etcc etc, an extremely lovely day celebrating his 50 not out, whilst batting for Life's XI in their current match against Livingpressure All-Stars XI.

 Tim - good health and happy days! (Someone will be along with the cake soon)
Hijack! Tim - Happy Birthday to you!

Hope you have a great day - full of :bicycle: :bicycle: :bicycle: and  and of course :birthday:

Blimey. I thought I'd kept it quiet. <fx: goes to edit profile>

Thanks everyone for the cakey wishes. Malted chocolate cake was made last night and scoffed in the office.

The magenta bike is getting a makeover as a present from Mrs. Hall. The Girl made me a klein bottle hat. (google it, you know you want to). The Boy is getting me cycling apparel too. My grate frend Penfold sent me a crate of beer from The Black Sheep brewery.

And now back to work.

I wasn't aware of the existence of Klein Bottle hats, but am now (I've known of Klein bottles themselves for many year). Googling for them, I see you can also get Mobius scarves. Very cool.

Talking of strange hats...
I want one of these

Would you wear that under, or over, your buff Ian?

As referenced in The Crow Road. Much easier to make than a Klein Bottle hat as well, turn end and sew to other end.
I spent a lot of time with single sided surfaces - mostly during the sober bits of Art School. My tutor at Chelsea was John Ernest, a Moebius strip fiend... we used to make them out of the casings of fluorescent lights and try to resurrect the three-dimensionality! He was a fearful scotch guzzler too, European postal chess champion - I once made him a cake of three intersecting circles a logic cake! (Venn diagram in other words...)ah the good ole days.. "Happy Birthday Tim" See what you've done?

I wondered if that was cheating, and whether you could knit a Möbius scarf in one piece, but I'm not sure that's possible, since you effectively have to start at both edges, and join it together in the middle (sort of, but you know what I mean). ...

I think I'll leave it to the more exotically and technically advanced research knitters.

Going back via the bird sanctuary place is a nice route Frank - and you get to see the concrete barges too - along with lovely wide-screen views of the approaching London skyline.
Thought I would have a look at Two Tree Island after breakfast. Will take train back to London from Leigh-on-Sea.
