Wondering if there will be a 'second division, err third division (south)' wandering slowly and desperately back whose interest is in saving the rail fare rather than proving their unfitness. Bailing out at Rochester seems a possible compromse between hills and cost ... watchafink?

Yes I will be riding back to Orpington via Faversham, Sittingbourne, Gillingham and Rochester then cross country to Swanley and Orpington. (if I get way before the bar opens that is *cough*)

Heh heh . The trouble with this "riding back" carry-on is that the weather conditions likely to make it an attractive option are exactly the same as the conditions that are suitable for reclining with a gin & tonic on the seafront. I believe our friends across the pond call it a "no-brainer".

Depends. If I actually make it on to this ride (everything has been against me this year, I swear Mrs KH broke her ankle on purpose) and if my knees can take it. Alwasy fancied trying the Gravesend ferry crossing to Tilbury, which I haven't used since I was 15. I suspect I will be on my own with this route though.

Here for rides.
Spent Friday, Saturday and Sunday being a tourist in Paris. Used the Velib a few times too.

Regret too much, walking and bag carrying, too soon for January's knee injury and all my right leg and lower back is now spasm-tastic. Back on a flippin' walking stick again. Not right to do a night ride if you ain't sure you can finish, especially one that takes you away from home.

Have just sent Simon the bail-out e-mail; so there's a space for someone on the waiting list.... every cloud, etc.

I may 'ride back' as far as Ashford to get a train which is only 20 miles and wouldn't preclude having drink taken.

Ah, now that's starting to sound a little more civilized. Would the route happen to pass the Sportsman at Seasalter?

I'll have to decline on this ride after all. I was away all weekend singing G&S and getting horrendously drunk. I'm therefore going to be too exhausted. I also have to work Saturday morning.

Looks like the weather will be fab too ;)

That's a plan:biggrin:
A pint plus a packet of Seasalter & Balsamic, please!

Sounds like I may not be on my own riding back then. I will also be heading back via some towns that sound like they have railway stations (just in case), and also I'm sure I won't be very quick on the return leg. But nothing ventured and all that....
