Enjoy yourselves. I have to admit that I am not entirely unhappy that I am not participating in this one! Hoping it is a little bit barmier for the Brighton ride.

Have just got home after a long day. Not coming, have told Simon yesterday morning as I guessed this would happen. I did book a place on the first boat and have sent a fiver to the Fridays account to pay for it.

Since everyone else was doing it, I just stuck my head outside the door to see how cold it feels, and it doesn't seem too bad. The sky looks clearish, not too many clouds, but I had better take it easy cycling into town, otherwise I'll be a horrible sweaty wreck.

Well I only have so much clothing i can wear at once. I'm assuming this will not be quite as cold as Southend when the water bottles froze.

It's a bit more complicated than that...
After falling asleep early I've spent the last hour awake and listening to strong and stormy winds. Miraculously, in the last ten minutes those winds have abated. Here's hoping that what's true of a Buckinghamshire hill is also true of the Essex Flatlands.

Given the beasterly wind, whose chill factor must've dragged the °C kicking and screaming to somewhere close to zero - two climatic conditions which are by far my least favourite for cycling in - I'm struggling to remember the last time I enjoyed a ride as much as I did last night's.
If you were on the ride, thank you.
That is all.

Back now, having left the seafarers to do stuff in boats towards Sarfend. A good start to the ride, as I got to show Mice my silk thermals at Victoria Station, and to induct User10571 into the Fellowship of The Nasty Pasty. I kept mostly toasty on the way to Stock, with some spare clothes held in reserve. The wind was windy and mosty favourable, either behind us or from the side. The run down to the ford was as idyllic as ever.

Stock village hall was a welcome break with top notch rolls and sticky buns. Could have done with being a wee bit warmer, but that didn't stop me catching 10 minutes shut eye stretched out on the stage. The second half was colder. I think the wind had picked up and was straight behind us. I put on my waterproof, but it took a while for my back to warm up. The lanes after Stock, whilst fantabulous to ride, slope gently down hill so don't give much chance to get the blood flowing. A sedate pace saw us arrive at Burnham on Crouch just before seven, where we swept into the cafe and took every carefully calculated seat. The young ladies took our orders and I enticed Susy to feel my silk thermals. A good breakfast (scrambled egg with smoked salmon) and then we shot for the station.

Only took a few photos, as big gloves got in the way. See them here (the pictures, not the gloves).

Love the pic by Buttsbury Ford, Tim.
The Nasty Pasty, not so much.
Here's one of a *moment* whilst Lisa, DavyW and I dilly-dallied at the back somewhere between Wallasey Island and Sarf'end.
Apologies for the quality, it's more Nokia than Nikon - hopefully someone will have snapped it better.

I love the Buttsbury ford photo - full of bright lights and colours, movement and darkness. And quintessentially Friday Night Ridish.
