While I'm still so cheered up by the recce ride I'd like to thank Rob for coming along. And for testing the depth of the water beside the path.
No worries. Thank you for having me. It was exactly what I needed.
Headwind, cold and forecast to be very very damp, it didn't exactly appeal quite so much last night, but (as ever) it was nowhere near as bad as feared. I'm glad I wore my waterproof boots though.
That was a splendid day.

The kind of conditions where fixed riders might get dunked feet if they don't unclip? Hmm...
Wise words. Fixed would be not good. Going down Old Stock Road we freewheeled for twenty and thirty yards at a time.

My Orbit tourer will be getting an unexpected outing. Thanks for doing the recce, dellzeqq. Your attention to detail is always impressive.
I agree. He likes to take stock of the situation before the Southend ride.
Titanium could be a good choice of bike for this ride...strong enough to resist Greg's statuesque body, impervious to water damage and...well, User10571's got one. And you know what they say...

*Strokes chin and looks at fixer with 'guards*

*Troubled by not having sufficient seatpost showing for customary hypnotic rear light arrangement*

Thing is..... the Ti bike is surgically clean at the mo......

No fixedwheel, no Brompton. Probably best because I suspect that one of those is responsible for the fact that my back hurts.
one of those is certainly responsible for why my thumb/nose/knees/elbows/forehead/scalp hurts. For certain.

I am finding this prospect of a fixed User10571 troubling. I guess it is because I hadn't realised he might be broken.
I am here to trouble.
It's my job.
That, and gathering information until such time as my spaceship is fixed so that I can go home.

Riding a folding bike far too much of the time...
Dellzeqq are you sure all this caution about water isn't an elaborate story to cover the sad truth that you were going to turn up at HPC on a bike with mudguards and a pannier rack?????

Right, I'm used to cold and even a bit of wet coming from above but I'm not really well-equipped for cold plus water coming from underneath. I can dig out the overshoes and the sealskinz socks that I thought I'd seen the last of until next winter. Will that be enough, do you think, or will I need to bring a couple of plastic bags to put over my feet for the submarine stretches?
