I'm going to have to pull a walnut and back out of this ride.

I've been told that I'm going out drinking instead, and as it's in aid of my birthday I can't really back out of this one.

I'm disappointed as I was hoping for a clean sweep of FNRs this year.

I'll actually be quite close to HPC at midnight, so if you see a drunken mess lying on the grass, trying to ride an imaginary bike and shouting "bollard", it'll be me.

Feel free to stuff some of Sig's cake in my pocket ;)

You'll get a distictly 'lukewarm' response for a comment like that mate!;)

Surely you have a plan with no flaws? Go out for birthday drinks/dinner, then do the ride.

Hmmm, unfortunately that is a plan with many flaws, drinking and riding do not mix well, so I've been told...;)

about 74 or so....

Quick question on lights. For this ride do I need a light to see by, or can I get away with a light to be seen. I don't ride often at night so just have a basic set of lights. I am thinking of getting a more powerful front light, but as prices are going down and efficiency going up I am happy to wait.
Thanks
Tim

Sounds like the reverse of my body tim - the price I pay going up and my efficiency is tumbling!
There will be an assortment of lights on this ride but, looking at the list, there is not an assortment of Tims - there is only Tim O showing. So if you haven't registered you need to send a billet doux to Simon at fnrttc@yahoo.co.uk. If that's done then cool.
I have two Hope 1 which seems enough, but it is nice to see some of the lighting on display - like car headlamps. Look for the riders with a cluster of moths around them - they are usually a good indicator of class! (Except the ones around Davy's back pocket who are engaged in an ongoing struggle to free themselves from his wallet ). Beware the retina busting (© Lee 1010) flashing rear lights as well. Travelling in convoy, winking mode becomes hypnotic!
See you there I hope1

(TGIF post! )

Southend is also the ride with probably the least really dark bits on it, so you can get away without stupidly bright lighting, aside from a few short stretches, when you just stick like glue to someone with lights! (or eat a lot of carrots).

Thanks. I am registered and got a note back from Simon whilst he was on holiday, but haven't had the pack yet.
I am looking forward to the ride and will probably stick with the basic lights unless I see a bargain beforehand.

Tricky one from this side. Not sure about domestic obligations as yet, so can't commit. If I do manage it, I'll definitely want to ride back. But I'll have a curfew for the Sat. Might do the social down, then nip back at speed afterwards.

Which feels all wrong.

Ah.. what to do??
