Hi Simon. We exchanged emails about this ride but I still don't seem to be on the list. Would like to come along too please. Cheers.

Given the non-hilliness and reasonably familiar territory of this one (I used to live in Stratford), combined with the mention of "genteel rules", I'm seriously considering joining in the SMRbtL. Any guesses as to when that's likely to arrive in London, seeing as my cycle space on the cheap train back to Brum will require advance booking?

13:45 was mikee's train - but that was all guns blazing at 32kph+ once we hit the highroad... 15:00?

Erm...

It was a really good trip last time, I just remember going to condor and then nearly falling asleep waiting out the last hour in St Pancras. I think about 4pm or something would be fine but I haven't done that sort of distance since last august.

The clunker isn't coming, it's actually out of action. The brakes among other things are broken and I mean seriously not working.

Is there some kind of get together in central london a bit beforehand, I was thinking of getting there at about 10pm.

I think you can spend a pleaseant hour or so wandering around the centre of town. My recommendation would be to go to the City, which is pretty empty after about ten, and take a look at the Gherkin and the Lloyds building, which are at their best at night. You could return to HPC by taking a slow turn along the south bank of the Thames from London Bridge to the Hungerford footbridges. There's some wiggling to be done through Borough Market and Clink Street, but it's all very pleasant.

Bear in mind that people start gathering at Hyde Park Corner at about 11.20.

I do hope the cat is not up to any tricks. He needs to understand the particular importance of fair weather this time round. My shiny new wheels would like an outing - I've barely had chance to take them for a spin yet.

tc - that bike looks great! made it yourself?

Thank you TBM! Yes - it started off as a bargain project. I got the frame, unpainted, for £25 from my LBS. When nearly finished, though, it suddenly started demanding a few shinier accoutrements. And if anyone should dare to suggest that I would do anything so preposterously vain as to buy silver cycling shoes to go with it, I will denounce them as the bounders and cads that they are...
