Front cog problem

I was out on my MB at the weekend (first time for a very long time) and whenever I dropped the front cog into the smallest cog it kept getting jammed against the frame after about 2 seconds of cycling - not slipping off to the left (ie being shunted too far left), but slackening off on itself until it jammed back on itself.

Any ideas?

I believe this is called "chain suck" - though I've never experienced it myself. Google it and see if what you find helps you

Thanks for the info - googled it and lots came up. At least I now know what the issue is - just need to suss out precisely the cause and then try and fix it.
