My Raleigh Airlite 100 has had its front derailleur replaced by a previous owner. The front derailleur is controlled by a paddle that has two settings Hi & Lo, but the derailleur currently in place seems made for three rings... so having now changed one of the chainrings things have started to go belly-up.
I now have a new 39t Stronglight chainring to replace the worn 42t, and I would like the larger CR to be something in the order of a 50t. My question is given that my bike has 7 gears in the rear, and that potentially the teeth difference between small and large is in the order of 8t, i.e. a 39/50, the band mount is fine for my tube at 32 mm.
Is the following spec (Claris) a reasonable choice for a new front derailleur or are there better options? I am conscious of the 8 speed compatibility detailed below which may be an problem? And the terms 'Top Gear Teeth', 'Maximum Capacity' and 'Chain Line' are a bit of a mystery to me.
