Sounds like my approach.

Dumbo question: are all cables equal? Can I buy one long length to fix the derailleurs and the brakes?

Gear and brake cables have different nipples, plus brake cables are thicker.

As well as above (thickness and nipple difference, and completely different outer cable structure for gear and brake function), sfaik all cables are sold long enough to use both front and rear.

Provided they are cable brakes and not hydraulic, you should be able to.

Please disregard this advice (and see others' advice in subsequent posts). Except that Alex is right to observe that you'd struggle to operate full hydraulic brakes with cables. Hybrid hydraulic OTOH need cables: brake cables, which are best used with incompressible brake cable outers.
