Should've retired years ago IMO. His slot at IPT could've been taken by a younger rider(s)? He's talked about setting up an Africa cycling academy in Kenya, well get on with it !

I agree but.... in the meantime he's been laughing all the way to the bank as far as I can understand about his IPT contract and payday. But, I'd liked to have seen him bow out on a high. I've always liked Chris though.
For me, my abiding memory is of one of his rivals attacking and making a gap on a big climb, looking over their should and have that "Oh no" moment and seeing Froome steadily making his way back to the front then keeping going.

I wish him all the best for a good recovery.

For sheer comedy value and WTF-ness I'm going for his aero-tuck/crapping dog downhill attack in 2016(?). It was genuinely attacking racing and it was effective but it was also hilarious. Probably not the classic choice, that would be that big attack in the Giro when Yates S exploded and Pinot had one of his nervous breakdowns, or maybe that heat-haze attack on Ax-3-Domaines in the first year he won.

I'd go for his attack in the Vuelta in 2011 on stage 17. It was the first time I ever thought a Brit would win a grand tour.

Does anyone think he'd have won another Tour if he hadn't had that big crash? He may have got 2019 but after that I think he would have been overtaken. I've never been his biggest fan but I would have liked him to have retired whilst still a contender, after the crash he deserved a chance to get back but after a season or two it should have been apparent it wasn't happening and he should have gone with his head held high. I'm not too bothered with IPT getting fleeced for a few more years though.

It was better comedy, but the downhill attack was both funny and actually legitimate racing.

I'm kinda doubtful. (If he'd have got another tour). But we'll never know. I think if you want to pick a crash that prevented him from getting 5 tours it might be the one where he crashed and broke his wrist on the cobbled stage, but before any actual cobbles, in the year Nibali won.

Yes, I think a 5th in 2019 would have been well within range: 2 of the podium would have been riding to team orders and the other one was a coat hanger.

2020? Probably would have got torched by Rog n Pog.

'19 for sure IMO, Bernal would have been on a tighter leash.

Maybe a contender in '20.

But since '21? No chance.

I love a bit of ifs and ands, but I wonder if Skineos might have dumped him anyhow if he'd won the tour in 2019. He was slightly tainted goods by then and Brailsford would probably have promised the '20 tour leadership to Bernal, who'd have cut a very Froome2012 like figure in the alternative reality 2019 tour.
