Frustrating problem with Ebay access

Hello all,

I've had some useful advice about computer issues from the helpful denizens of this forum in the past, so I was wondering if someone here could help me with a problem that's been bugging me for months with Ebay.

The problem is this: I can browse items ok, but as soon as I want to purchase something or add something to my 'watch list' etc, I'm prompted repeatedly to type in my user name and password, and presented with error messages such as 'Unable To Complete Secure Transaction' or 'Connection Closed By Remote Server'. Even on the odd occasions where my login is successful, I'm soon asked to provide my user name and password again, and this cycle usually continues until I get fed up and stop trying.

This seemed to start just after I updated Java some months ago, and although I wouldn't swear the issue is related to that, it does seem likely. There are chat forums where others complain of the same problem with Ebay, but I've never been able to find a solution. Apparently, no-one at Ebay is minded to help. The issue is not with the Ebay account itself, BTW, since I can access it from another computer with no trouble.

If anyone could shed any light on this, I'd be eternally grateful!

Thank you,

Steve

delete all the internet browser history - particularly cookies and the like. Re-start your PC and try again.

If this doesn't work - and the history / cookies stuff often does cure this kind of thing, then you'll have to dig a bit deeper - but try that first
(if you've not done so)

Hi Profpointy,

Thanks for the speedy reply. I just tried deleting 'History' and 'Private Data', but it didn't seem to make any difference. I have Opera and Firefox on my computer, and the situation is much the same with both of them.

Oh well, down to java settings and security settings next then I guess.
(although in the trade, I am lazy and just use internet explore so can't help further I'm afraid)

Yes, time, etc are correctly set. I sort of cured the problem by using Internet Explorer for EBay. Not really a proper cure, but it works well enough for me to have bought a front light for the bike last night.

Thanks again for the help.
