full 105 v's full ultegra

this is going to be my ultimate dream build and just want to get it right from the start
both are triple groupsets - i suppose i need to ask myself is the slightly less weight and slicker shifting worth the extra money,.at the expense of cheaper finishing kit

your right ian - im defo going for the van nick - but might stretch the budget a bit more and go for the ultegra triple

Having tried Tiagra/105/Ultegra I can't tell one iota of shifting difference between the three of them. My Lovely Wife says I am insensitive so who knows.....
Allegedly the 2014 Ultegra has shorter more positive shifting according to Shimano - maybe it does, maybe it doesn't but I am cycnical about the marketing spiel tbh. There's really only so much you can do with a couple of pretty low-tech levers isn't there and they've been tinkering away for years and years now.
FWIW I think that the Ultegra crankset is one ugly lump of metal. Maybe you like the look of it?
Just get whatever makes you happy and if it makes Shimano even richer in the process then it's win-win.

- and the 6800 2014Ultegra is 11 speed of course - triple not yet available, but in the pipeline, apparently. Even uglier chainset. As a result there seem to be some big reductions around on the price of the 6700.
well its the 6700 ultegra which i'll be rocking on the van nick in a triple 52/39/30, hanbuilt velocity a23's and van nick finishing kit.....gonna be a long 3wks waiting for it to be purchased and built

I've used Sora, Tiagra, 105 and Ultegra.
Sora is fine, everything worked
Tiagra was better because of the shifters (it was when Sora still had them thumb things)
105 was better as less force was needed on the shifters (chainset shifting, moving up (bigger ring)). Everything felt tight, more so than Tiagra or Sora.
Ultegra wasn't better, but I got my parts very cheap so I can't complain.

No experience of Ultegra 6700, but the 105 5700 is not as slick as my old Ultegra 6600, I like the hood profile of the 105 Brifters, gives a nice flat platform to rest the palms, I don't like the Ultegra Chain set looks.
Of course the old Ultegra had the side emerging cables on the brifters, this could account for their slickness.

My experience exactly - except for Ultegra being slightly more clunky than my buttery smooth 105. My theory is that my Ultegra equipped bike (Giant TCR) has internal cable routing that results in a "tighter" cable run.

That was my experience also with ultegra shifters , after knackering two L/H ultegra shifters I stuck a tiagra shifter on and found it shifted a lot easier because the cables on tiagra are not under the bar tape.
