At which point, assuming you get them out in one piece each, they'll no longer be legal tender. Even the banks won't take them back.
Apparently the banks will replace them, as long as the serial numbers are still legible.

Australia introduced plastic notes a few decades ago. The main problem with them is that once they crease, they stay creased.
Which reminds me: I have Swiss Francs and Euros in my wallet that I need to dispose of somehow. Should I exchange them for Australian dollars (which of course will attract a fee), or just hang on to them until my next trip to Europe? Should I start a forum poll about how to dispose of them? :laugh:
