I just get out and ride too, and like using gadgets to record the rides. It's a pity some people can't just accept that.

I have a basic Cateye computer which shows mileage (amongst other things, but it's the mileage I got it for).
I like to see how many miles I've done but don't obsess - I go home when I'm tired!

Having given up the fags earlier this year, my e-cigarette goes with me on every ride. I've even got a special small battery for cycling so that it all fits neatly into a back pocket

Doesn't seem particularly wise to me to go anywhere without the phone, especially not miles away from home. But that's the only gadget I have, though I do want a GPS of some sort.

I got a bike as an accessory to my GPS so I can move it about a bit more.

And use the garmin to record the ride whilst bluetoothed to my phone that tweets and facebooks my progress, while the gopro uses the phones data to upload photos as i go.

I think gadgets can be very enabling; I couldn't have managed to do my LEJOG in the time I had available without my GPS.
