I have a similar problem in that my garage is in a separate block, although only a little way from the house. You've seen some of what garage contains and I'll admit to being worried on occasion, despite the almost non-existent crime. I have wall anchors positioned so I can get a decent D-lock and cables through the frames and more exotic wheels. Unless the walls are pristine, these would only leave easily fillable and disguised holes when you had to move out.

I've also considered (but not bought) an alarm that will phone/text if it goes off. They're quite reasonable these days - example here.

I'm also a bit cautious about installing security that's out of keeping with the other garages. It screams valuables. One other thing - I've got a sacrificial crappy old bike that I leave unlocked so that, if a feef gets in, they'll see the locks and just grab the one thing that isn't.

. I live in a relatively low crime provincial town, although bike thefts from garages are not unknown.
It's a CITY Jay, not bloody Basingstoke! Don't make me report you to the committee.

I know this might sound silly. But i thought about it.Before we had security gates put over the outside of the garage door.and seperate cables and locks for each bike. But how about a wooden frame inside the garage,With another door,so hiding the bikes from view.

Down to the local scrappy, get a (steam cleaned) engine block, onto the local yacht chandler and get 10m of heavy duty anchor chain (2nd hand will do), make sure the links are big enough for a D lock.

Loop the chain through the piston holes and join the two ends with a shackle done up with super glue and a pipe wrench.

Lock each bike to the loop of chain

(Yacht owners use the old engine block and chain loop to anchor yachts on mud berths, if you can keep 5 tonnes of yacht in the same place in a force 10 gale it will work for bikes)

All sensible ideas albeit I would not use any kind of security that stands out from the other garages.

One other point to note. Try and use the garage discretely if you can, for example don't use the garage if you see someone millin around and move the bikes in piecemeal over a few days, unless you can put them in a vehicle and reverse close to the doors.

And dont forget the roof!!! The bastewards broke through my tiled roof to steal my bikes.
Roof is now protected with heavy steel mesh.

If you use them you had best grind the head smooth or they can simply be unscrewed......they arent resin fixed.

Or resin fix them I suppose.

Approach it this way.
You've got into your garage, having only just got the bikes there. So you don't want to draw attention.
When you realise you've brought the wrong keys, how'd you get the one of the bikes?

OK, I have a plan

All the garages have few extra locks and at best a basic hasp and staple, certainly no defenders. So I bought an impressive looking basic padlock for £4 off eBay which fits onto the existing hasp and staple

Inside I researched all sorts of ground anchors and finally decided at one of these buried 3/4s into the ground in cement (curved end upwards) will be as good as £20-25 ground anchors http://www.tredz.co.uk/.Oxford-Shackle-12-U-Lock_68917.htm

Then one of these onto the main prize bike http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/262711888443 with a cable lock looped through both wheels.

Then a hybrid bike attached to each side of the main bike using these http://www.tesco.com/direct/cyclepr...us-cable-115x292mm/588-3668.prd?source=others (I got four of them at a fiver each - not that strong but look the part and will hopefully put people off!

Of course the really clever thief will nick the Di2 groupset and parts!

Just the small issue of digging a hole for the anchor in a garage with no power, and then mixing cement with no water supply!

I live in a "good" area but woke up in 2009 to find my garage door wrecked and all my bikes gone, despite door thru frame bolts, chemical anchor bolts securing in the ground anchors and them all being chained together, plus, with assorted motorcycle U locks. Tbh I don't know what else I could have (realistically) done, they must have made right racket and spent a lot of time in there.................

Since then I've not bothered using any security apart from the below cheap battery operated LED lights. I have 2 drilled into the front door and 2 at the back window, total cost was sub £10 and I use rechargeable batteries. I've not had a problem since, but my neighbours have, I do believe the buggers assume a whizz bang security system is fitted and just move on to another shed/garage. It was right palaver getting bikes out for ride before too, unchaining and unlocking stuff..............

My bicycles sleep at the foot of my bed, no slumming it in a garage for my beauties! Granted, I do occasionally have to kick them to stop them snoring...

Seriously, though, my bikes are in a bedroom further down my main hallway than the one I sleep in, so they're about as secure as they'll ever be.
