A the beginning of September I planted some potatoes for Christmas, with the mild weather we have been having I might just succeed this year ^_^
My main crop was OK, considering I didn't plant any, they just sprouted from last year.
Today I have planted garlic.
I never had good results previously, but seeing as shop bought garlic is becoming more and more tasteless, this year I bought organic garlic for planting from a seed vendor.

Our potatoes were two plants that randomly appeared as we had not planted them so must have come from the compost i took out the compost bin so well happy .

Never tried growing garlic

You should, it's easy and delicious. I've noticed since Brexit the garlic quality available in shops has declined, small, soft and often rots.

Where I have struggled with homegrown is finding varieties which produce large bulbs. I know they exist and by chance I bought some 3 - 4 years ago. I can't remember the variety name. Many varieties only produce small bulbs.

I've overcome this by growing Elephant "garlic." It isn't actually a garlic but has the same flavour. This produces huge, onion size bulbs which store very well, far better than any true garlic I've grown.

EDIT - the change in garlic quality is, in my opinion, because we seem to be getting imports from outside Europe, often China. This may have always been the case and it's a coincidence. I don't know as I've only been looking over the past 18 months. It could be a cost thing also related to Brexit.

Very nice @D_97_goodtimes but my garden, here in central Scotland, in summer looks even more colourful than that :becool:

Ah- If my photography skills were better you would be able to see the line of leeks, the tomatoes staked on the vine and other such goodies. The pretty flowers in the foreground camouflage and distracts the eye away from the edible delights.

I have the utmost admiration for those talented souls who labour in allotments and gardens. My gardening skills are limited to slash and burn - alas.

Thats my tomato plants gone. The last of the crop will be used by Mrs D to make a chutney.

Quite gratifying we now have a half sized chest freezer brim full of home grown produce and Mrs D's confections made from. It, such as pasata.

One last grass cut, possibly, possibly next week, and the garden will be closed for the winter. Big plans for expanding the operation come spring.

Have you planted your garlic and broad beans, split your perennials, covered your compost heap, cleaned and sharpened your tools?
Are you gathering the fallen leaves for leaf mulch?
Planted up some nice pots with spring bulbs?
Cut down your roses?
I still got loads to do, but, like every year, I'll not make it in time.
Wish I could garden instead of having to go to work

Just got to find out the best way to eat them as they are new to me ( given the plants by another allotment holder)
