so if i go up and down the same 300ft climb 10times i should be totally 3000ft of climbing - but garmin is saying 300ft of elevation gained not 3000ft of total climbing

or is this not the correct way of thinking??

I don't have a Garmin to hand, but there is definitely a display value for total elevation gained in a ride. I would imagine you have yours set to just show current elevation.

Elevation Loss: 331 m
Min Elevation: -1 m

Can you just link the activity? It will probably speed this up!

Okay, these are the stats I see.

Elevation Gain: 1,766 ft
Elevation Loss: 1,761 ft
Min Elevation: 38 ft
Max Elevation: 723 ft

Elevation Gain (1,766 ft) is the total amount of climbing.
Elevation Loss (1,761 ft) is the total amount of descending (if you did a loop both values should be the same, in theory, in practice they usually vary by a little bit, they are pretty damn close in this example!).
Min Elevation (38 ft) is the lowest absolute elevation on your ride.
Max Elevation (723 ft) is the highest absolute point on your ride.

I think the "Elevation Corrections" changes the device to read the proper elevation, usually my device says alot higher than the website summary says and i think the Elevation Corrections is why

but in the first 15 miles if you add up the footage climbed, its already nearly over 1000ft - from mile 1 to top of ridge at mile 15 - which is what i dont get

dont you class every rise as footage climbed or do you just see that as a bump in the road, cause if you add up every rise, it accumalates to 4100ft
