Can anyone offer any suggestions. I'm only getting about two and a half hours use from a full charge. Back light turned off, not using hrm or cadence and not using maps screen.

It's a year old, had little use. Got from a club mate. I thought it may be the battery so I replaced it but it didn't improve.

Try Garmin support (on their web page). I had a HRM that didn't work, and they just sent me a new one without even asking for proof of purchase ....

If you've replaced the battery it could be the failure of some circuit board component. I only say this because an old Etrex of mine, developed a USB connection fault which also brought the 2xAA NIMH battery life down from ~24hrs, to <3hrs. Contacting Garmin may be worth a shot.

I know you've mentioned this, but are you sure the backlight isn't on? I used to struggle with the battery life on my 810, and thought I had the backlight off, but if you press the on/off button (as I'm sure you know) it actually turns the backlight back on, and in daylight it's pretty hard to tell if it's on or off. It's the only thing I've found which reduces the battery life significantly.
