I use a Garmin Edge 130 on one of my bikes for tracking rides, it also works with power sensors/cadence/speed/HR monitors if you need those, but they're certainly not obligatory. I use mine with a Garmin HR monitor and it works well. The display is a very clear monochrome LCD display, it has a backlight but it is clear to see in the daytime without the backlight needing to be active. I also use a wahoo Bolt, but I find it's need to connect to wi-fi quite annoying, I wish it would just sync ride data over Bluetooth with the mobile app.
