It was written by Rouget de Lisle in the revolution of 1789, to rally round and unite the French people against invasion by the enemy. It is in our blood now and should not be altered in any way. Those who say it is too blood thirsty or even racist should remind themselves that it saved our country and is one of the great and well known national hymns of the world. Long live the Marseillaise.
