You're not on the Agile tariff then?
No, I'm on fixed export. I have seen analysis that shows the average export rate on Agile is below 15p. I'll be looking again come March ( oh, that's Sunday 😮 )

That would be true if you were exporting all the time.

But most exports tend to happen around peak times, as that is when you will have filled the battery up, and the times of year when it is not still light then you won't be exporting much anyhow.

This month, my export has averaged 12.3p per kWh. But I'm not exporting anything at the peak rates.

There are pluses and minuses to both ways of doing (or their third way - Flux).

I've just had solar installed and they recommended Flux. For some reason it'll take them a couple of weeks to get export allowed, so it's battery and import only for now.

I think the way to best manage this is:

Winter: charge up the battery fully at cheap import overnight. Recharge a little bit if needed just before the peak rate kicks in

Summer: discharge the battery to maybe 25% during peak rate. Charge up to maybe 20% overnight to get you to when solar kicks in.

No idea if this is really the best octopus tariff for us, or if others are better. So many options, I'll go with this recommendation for now.

I can see a strategy where I keep the battery paused when full then dump at the peak rates. I use " Wonder Watt " app which is really useful for scheduling and has lots of control options.

Just watched Gary Does Solar about Axle energy. Very interesting and I have signed up using Garys referral link which put £25 into my account 😎.
I was aware that when people export electricity it goes to their immediate neighbours and the local grid, but it's mentioned in the video as a virtuous thing.
I also got issued with my own referral link which is https://vpp.axle.energy/landing/grid?ref=R-KFDLRJON

232 kwh generated if February, that's poor and reflects the dull days of February with little sun. Here's lookng forward to a lovely sunny March ( though it's not started well 🤞

Only 150 kWh generated here and 10% of that was thanks to Wednesday's only day of full sunshine in the month. Last February was 172 kWh for comparison.

Unless we have an unforeseen cold snap my heating is now off until next winter. I'm due a bill around mid march and besause the heating has been in itll be larger than usual. British Gash in their wisdom will see this and try to raise my DD, even though the heating is now off, which will bring about my annual argument with them in which their call handler will first-name me without my permission and make me really angry.

I'm comfortably in credit with Octopus and have set my DD to £10. They still send me suggestions to up the amount to something ridiculous from time to time. Others have said that you can opt to receive a monthly bill for what you've used and pay that.
