Gave the commute bike a quick once-over earlier

Glad I did, the lockring had worked loose- not usually a big deal, I didn't use one for a long time. Except now I'm using a Miche sprocket carrier, sprocket was a bit- um- wobbly.

Also the headset's got some rusty goo leaking out of it- nice. Think it might be the original Specialized Mindset, christ knows how it lasted so long. Heard they're a bit of a pain in the arse, going to take it apart tomorrow and see what I've got in there...

It's definitely replacement time! just not sure what sort of arrangement is in there at the moment, whether balls in cages or sealed bearings.

It's a Specialised Singlecross, the original headset was probably a Specialised Mindset, a sort of Integrated headset but with balls in cages rather than sealed races. I'm just uncertain whether it has been modified since bought (it's possible the LBS did some work on it once). The external bits haven't changed so probably fair assumption it's the original headset.

Unless it's 'notchy' give it a clean and fresh grease. :bicycle:
