When gears need adjusting do you :-

I fix mine without fuss in minutes using a bike stand that fits any of the seat posts of my five bikes.

Only the inept would attempt to clamp a frame in a bike stand

Are we talking front or rear?

I can fettle the front mech whilst standing over the bike, the rear requires a bike stand. And I sometimes even well most of time actually  clamp the frame

The my seat-post has too much crap bolted to it, so go for the invert option.

That's why I have an old seat tube lying around for. Mark the proper one with a bit of tape and replace with spare for putting on the stand. At end of fettle, replace tube to marked length. Simples.

Get a fixed, no gear messing issues.
However, i have messed with the gears on my geared bike(was may i last messed around with the gears, because i last used it end of April and it needed sorting) and did it on the floor.
Also done it by hanging the saddle nose on the door frame in the shed, and i have an old microwave wall mount up on the wall in the shed i use to hang bike on, did it on there a few times.

Besides the regular clamp, I have one of these:

Mostly, however, I clamp the seatpost.

I don't have a bike stand, but I want one. I mess with gears with the bike just sitting on the ground. Move the mech a bit, lift the back of the bike and spin it. Not ideal and I would like a stand. I think that's how I did my knee last weekend, messing with the dérailleur.

I also want better cable cutters. I have a few pairs but they won't cut gear cable outer properly.

Thought they were sealed systems ? Where does the air get in ?

There is some air in the reservoir attached to the lever. When you flip the system upside down that air can get into the line as the oil runs out of the line into the reservoir.
