gear problem?

Okay, I think I've found my first problem with my new bike. When I tried to move the gear on my left handle bar to move the chain to the largest cog the chain stays on the middle cog, or rather there is a noise from the cogs that doesn't sound right. All other gear changes seem smooth enough... I'm happy enough to take the bike into a shop for a check but would rather attempt a fix myself if some one can direct me

So it is very similar process for the front derailleur?

It can only be two things I think, first it the high stop screw is screwed in too far( unlikely) more probably the front derailleur cable needs tensioning. You can do that with either the barrel adjuster or taking the cable off at the derailleur and re tensioning.

If you follow the cable from the shifter you should be able to find the barrel adjuster.

When you say re tensioning do you mean loosen or tighten?

Tighten, so the cable will pull more, when you shift.
