Where do I sign the petition? I'm continually riding into the back of unlit parked cars at night. Just can't see 'em.

Put a light on your bike. Problem solved ;)

Edit: and get your eyes checked. Too many rogue cyclists with very poor eyesight on our roads with no lights is a recipe for disaster ..... or is that the responsibility of drivers?

Unlike your logic there is nothing wrong with my eyesight.

If I have a light on my bike, puny in comparison with the lights on a car, how will that help me to better see ninja planks* if you can't seen them adequately with your MA-HOOS-SIVE car headlights?

*or parked cars or trees or walls or kerbs or drain covers or skips or badgers or any manner of unlit thing you may encounter on the road....

You said you have problems with bumping into parked cars. To me that suggests a problem. Glad to hear your eyesight is fine, so buy a decent light as it's well documented we (humans) don't have brilliant night vision compared to other animals.

It's also well documented that we humans have a tendency to separate into in-groups and out-groups, and having identified an out-group, characterised by being "different" to us in the in-group, to see them as progressively less and less deserving of the protections of a civilised society, less deserving of giving any weight in our decisions about the actions we collectively take as a society, and more required to fend for themselves.

But we humans have night vision more than good enough to see a ninja plank in the illumination provided by a car's headlights, if the driver is bothering to look, and driving appropriately for the conditions, and as we don't yet allow other species to drive that would appear to be good enough.

i have no idea what you're arguing here Gregry... may i ask, do you cycle at night? And if so, do you have lights on your bike?

You appear to be arguing that it's the drivers sole responsibility to see every obstacle, which it is... but that doesn't mean a cyclist or pedestrian is absolved of any responsibility for themselves.

and regarding the question...

do you cycle at night? And if so, do you have lights on your bike?
What does what I do or don't do at night on my bike have to do with a motorist's ability, or otherwise, to spot a ninja plank/pedestrian/badger/black dog/tree/kerb* at night when driving their car with the headlights on?

Hang on. I've got it. You're all trying to tell me I am the living embodiment of Nótt, norse god of the night, and as such my riding at night somehow affects the nation's night vision. I see.

Or not. Depending on my lights.

*other unlit objects are available. The wattage of your lights may go down as well as up. Your life is at risk if you don't keep wearing hi-viz.

it's just a simple question that you're avoiding answering.

I suspect that you do in fact have a set of lights on your bike... but are reluctant to admit that as it shows that you too take just a little responsibility for your own visibility.
