At 49 I should have a few (medical ) things wrong with me. If I do, I'm blissfully unaware, as I never go to the doctor's, because I don't have time to get aches and pains investigated, because I can't be bothered, because they will go away eventually, because I'd rather drop while I feel ok ....

As long as you know enough to go when you have to. I'm a mere nipper at 30, but my old man was never one to go to the doctor... a while back he confided in my mum that he'd been passing blood when going to the loo, but it was only a tiny little bit and there was no pain so sure it would pass.

She made him go to the doctors. Turns out he had a small tumor in his bladder. It was operable, and after spending a bit longer than he was comfortable with having a tube up his urethra (and far too much longer than I was comfortable with telling me about it) he is on the good-to-go-about-your-own-business-for-a-bit list.

Some of those minor things are worth asking about.

That kinda serious stuff does not happen to me (yet), I'm tough like old boots, me, I'm hardcore, I'm invincible :wacko::boxing:

If the drugs keep you functioning just take them and get on with life.

I take well over 2.5 grams a day, they deal with the ailments, and I can do almost everything I could before problems struck.

If I didn't take 'em bits would stop working and fairly soon I'd die, so which is the better option?

Are you having radio therapy or radioiodine. I had radioiodine and it hardly touched me. Because of previous exposure to fairly high levels of radiation I was unable to have another dose and had to have a surgical total thyroidectomy. Good luck with it and I hope you get it sorted.

Radioiodine which as I understand it is a form of radiotherapy according to the consultant at Christies.

Been a long slog of 3 years to get this far so looking forward to this next step and eventual long term-control.

Thanks for your best wishes.

Are you on Carbimazole? Part of my problem with the radioiodine was that the hospital told me to stop the Carbimazole 3 days before the radiation, when 2 weeks would have been better. The residual Carbimazole prevented the full uptake of the iodine which is why it's effects were so limited.

Don't forget that if you end up on Thyroxine you then get all your prescriptions free of charge.

I'm 55 and take 1 x multivitamin, 1 x glucosamime/condroitin and 1 x cod liver oil tablet each day.

So far the only things going wrong are my eyes  (but nothing that regular tests and new glasses from time to time can't keep under control).

But recently, my neck has started clicking and grating every time I move my head. Not painful, but bloody annoying sometimes. I hope it's not a precursor of arthritis.....

However, reading through this thread, if that's all I have got to complain about then I'm not doing too badly! ^_^
