When I had hair...^_^

When my mum passed away earlier this year we had the task of clearing her place out. We invited a couple of charities round to look at a 1940s wardrobe and a couple of coffee tables. They took one look and said no thanks, nobody wants that stuff now.
The wardrobe got skipped , one table given away to a family member and the other went on ebay. It sold for 40 quid to a restorer who a couple of months later told us he had found a new home for it in Brighton and sold it for £250

We went through this in 2015 when my Father-in-Law died. His will, which was a bugger's muddle of a thing, lumbered us with the contents of his house. Apart from a coffee table and nest of occasional tables, kept for sentimental reasons, the rest went to charity shops, and the stuff they wouldn't take cost us several hundred pounds to have carted away.

Organ looks nice (ahem)
Sure somebody would make good use of it, shame to see it on the tip.
When Mr M got his flat he "inherited" an old sideboard that was his grandfathers.
The local auction house took it, even though it was riddled with woodworm. Even paid for it but can't remember how much (MIL pocketed that though)

My wife just said that it is a lovely electronic organ but we don't have room for it. It does look good, it is a shame, you just need to find the right person.
It is strange what some people think as being junk others will pay hundreds for. Even the experts sometimes get it wrong.

30/40's furniture can command a decent price if only you can find the right outlet for it.

Have you tried any of the Facebook nostalgia type groups?

I tried to give a couple of armchairs away. Charities wouldn't take them as they didn't have the fire resistance labels. They went in the skip, which was a crying shame. They were recliners of reputable make (which I can't remember).

We had a similar situation when we were clearing my mum's house. Several decent items ended up at the tip, because there was nowhere else that would take them.

Here in trendy North London I pass a shop most days whose business model is clearly 1) Buy old sideboard or chest of drawers for £30, 2) Add a couple of coats of Farrow & Ball's finest, 3) Sell for £780.

I'm amazed by what they charge for stuff, but they must sell it because the stock in the window changes constantly.

That organ will be massively appreciated by a school or a church in Africa, if you can just find a way to get it loaded into a container. Look at sites like TWAM (Tools With A Mission) and others of a similar ilk: http://www.twam.uk/ they're God botherers, which is a bonus.

My MIL died a few months ago and we are still flogging her stuff on Eblag. Unfortunately we have now attracted the attention of a trader in Perth, Australia, who seems to like the stuff, so she bids, wins, then asks ever so sweetly if we would mind if she didn't pay for ten days "until I get paid", which is beginning to get up our noses. We are going to block her from bidding on the next lot of Grandma junk.

While we cleared the MIL's house a white Transit pulled up and three Romanians jumped out, stinking of booze, and threw all the metal in the back. Twenty minutes later the paddies showed up and were not chuffed to hear that the Romanians had beaten them to it. We think the Romanians have a buddy at the tip company, giving them, er, tips. I foresee a turf war.

I know you've all been on tenterhooks wondering what happened to my organ...
...after a week and a half of zilch on Gumtree, I ended up with 2 people desperate for it. All's well that ends well.
Now, anyone want a Casio keyboard... @srw , could you ask your mate Jacob if he's interested. It's going cheap if he's a bit strapped...
