Getting rid of stuff

I'm left with two 1930's walnut wardrobes, one large walnut dressing table and a weighty electric organ.
All quality stuff but I can't even give it away.

No local Wood-turners/carpenters, that may take if off your hands?

Here in trendy North London I pass a shop most days whose business model is clearly 1) Buy old sideboard or chest of drawers for £30, 2) Add a couple of coats of Farrow & Ball's finest, 3) Sell for £780.

I'm amazed by what they charge for stuff, but they must sell it because the stock in the window changes constantly.

Or The Woodstore? Would they take the wardrobes and recycle the wood?

They're all veneer and probably of little use to them. And I've no way of getting the big bastards downstairs without dismantling them...

I had a funny experience with a skip in London. I was clearing a shed and garden (chairs table old lawn mower that kind of thing) overnight a lot of the stuff disappeared and in its place was a bunch of other stuff. Some were taking out and others were putting in.

I phoned a recycling firm and said "I want a skip outside my house " they said " go on then we're not stopping you"

Sadly since e-bay the chances of picking something like this up for peanuts have long gone,



I knew someone who picked up 'Grandads Old Amp' for £20 in the early 80s
