Cloudy last night but I finished my ride at 9.30 and there was still enough light.

But this is the saddest day of the year for me, it just adds to my general depression.

I'm sitting in an attic bedroom with a large west-facing Velux window. It's 17:30 on 21st June and it should be warm up here with sunlight streaming in but I've had to put my thick lumberjack shirt on to keep warm, and have 3 lights on to see what I'm doing and am toying with switching my super-bright SAD light back on!

We've had crap summers here every year since 2007 and I'm getting fed up with them. If I had the money, I'd find somewhere reliably sunny and dry to take my bike every summer where it is a pleasant 20-23 °C. Ditto for the winter! At least the last few springs have been pretty good ...

It got blacker and blacker here and I thought we were about to have a massive thunderstorm but it seems to be blowing over ...

I've just had my sister on the phone telling me about her fantastic 3 week holiday in the USA - huge forests, vast deserts, high mountains, bears, Alcatraz visit, walking the Golden Gate bridge, tram tour of San Francisco, Segway tour of San Diego, walking part of the Grand Canyon, a couple of days in Las Vegas, gobsmacked in Yosemite, snowed in at Mammoth Lake, reduced to tears by the beauty of the view from the top of some glacier that I've never even heard of, a tour of a 19th century Gold Mine somewhere, canyon river walking somewhere else, kayaking in some other fantastic place, checking out a dam much bigger than Hoover, red rocks of Moab, back to LA to do the Hollywood tours and theme parks, Blue Whale-watching boat trip ...

Why would I be jealous when I have memories of another dark, damp Yorkshire summer to look back on in my old age!

Summer solstice normally means putting more effort in as I tend to do more cycling in the second half of the year than the first half for some reason.

Had a storm here. Monsoon stuff for about 15 mins. My workshop came within millimetres of being flooded. The roof leaked like a sieve though.

Alls well that ends well etc , nothing got damaged.
